Long Term Care

Because you don't know today what tomorrow's needs will be...

You have, no doubt, set aside funds for your retirement years, but any savings you have accumulated can be reduced dramatically, or even depleted, if you find yourself in need of long term care.

With Long Term Security, you have a safety net that will enable you to maintain your financial and emotional independence, if and when you need long term care. You will have your own "benefit account" from which your expenses will be paid. The funds in your account will cover all levels of care - skilled, intermediate and custodial - and can be used for qualified providers nationwide, and in U.S. possessions and Canada.

Long Term Care protects your assets and your children's assets.

Where can you receive benefits?

At home

Professional Care - provided by RNs, LPNs, LVNs, respiratory therapists, physical, occupational or speech therapist, registered dieticians or licensed social workers.

Personal Care - provided by certified aids.

Homemaker and Companion Services - can be provided by any of the above individuals during the same visit in which they are primarily providing professional care or personal care.

Through your community
Adult Day Care - Community care options, such as Adult Day Care, may make it easier for you to stay at home. You may use your benefit account for state licensed adult day care centers or community care providers.

Respite care - If a family member or friend is caring for you at your home, benefits are payable for respite care for up to 21 days each year. This enables your caregiver to have a break from the responsibilities of caregiving.

At an alternate facility
Alternate facilities, such as assisted living facilities, Alzheimer's facilities, board and care homes and community-based residential facilities are also covered.

At a nursing home
If you need more intensive, round-the-clock care, your benefit account will cover nursing home care as well. Your plan covers all levels of nursing home care.

How to qualify for benefits
Most long term care insurance companies generally begin your benefits when documentation is provided to them showing that you need care for either of two reasons:

1. You require substantial assistance in performing any two or more of six every day activities, known as "Activities of Daily Living" (ADLs).

Substantial assistance includes the hands-on assistance of another person or the stand-by help of another person at your side while you perform an Activity of Daily Living. A physician, registered nurse, or licensed medical social worker need only expect that you need substantial assistance for at least 90 days.

The Activities of Daily Living are:

  • Bathing
  • Toileting
  • Continence
  • Dressing
  • Transferring
  • Eating

2.You require substantial supervisory assistance due to a cognitive loss, which is a deterioration or loss in your intellectual capability.

Cognitive loss includes such conditions as Alzheimer's Disease, senility and other forms of dementia.

Design your own plan

  • You can choose to be paid a daily benefit from $50/day to up to $200/day.
  • You can choose a benefit period from 365 days of being paid each day (one year), to two, three, four, five years or even a lifetime (unlimited) daily payment for the rest of your life.
  • You can decide when, after meeting the benefit-eligibility criteria, you want to start receiving benefits. This is referred to as your Elimination Period. You generally can select an elimination period from one of the following days: 0, 7, 30, 60, or 90 days.
